Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 March 2024
During more than 55 years of operation we have developed some core attitudes of stewardship and fairness that we hope are exemplified in the following ways:
- We work with all denominations and Christian expressions without prejudice and insist that end recipients of our grants (those helped by local churches and projects we support) are of any faith persuasion or none.
- We don’t hide our central operating costs and we are open about our fundraising costs. Historically, we have achieved a consistent 25:75 split between expenditure on raising funds and charitable activities, or very close to it, but in the last three years this has moved to a 15:85 split.
- Our central operating costs represented 4.8% of all expenditure in 2022/23 (3.1% in 2021/2022), which, along with support staff costs, governance, and occasionally UK conference costs, are allocated to expenditure on raising funds and charitable activities based on the time we spend directly on each activity. Central operating costs are essential and help ensure we operate to the highest standards expected of charities, but we always aim to keep these costs to a minimum.
- To achieve equity with national salaries our pay scales are based on the lower NHS pay rates, and we don’t expect our staff to raise their own funding (something which can discriminate against those from less-able churches and backgrounds).
- The paid staff are kept to a minimum, perform multiple functions, and are augmented by a network of volunteers at various levels.
- Our offices are situated within easy access of the M4/M5 Almondsbury Interchange, fully-owned and utilised by TEN for its charitable aims. You are welcome to drop in any time, and you won’t see any marble floors or expensive paintings. You will, however, be offered a fresh cup of coffee and hear about our latest news.
