Providing financial support in response to emergency situations
Back in September 2024, I met with six partners in Moldova and we discussed this topic. A few months later, Andrei Ghidion, who serves in Burlacu, contacted me with two potential projects.
Using funds raised through purchases from our Essential Gifts Sustainability category and match funds from churches in Bristol and Peterborough, we sent a grant to Andrei. The first project to raise quails and sell the eggs didn’t work out as the local person due to run it moved abroad.
But the second project, a bee-keeping business, has started positively. Andrei used the collaborative funding to purchase fifteen bee colonies. With some of his own funds he bought forty empty hives and other equipment and materials. In July, Andrei told us, ‘The bee-keeping project continues to develop very well. This season we have already harvested a good amount of honey. My hope is that Marius [who works with me in the church’s ministry] will become actively involved in this project. It will provide him with a source of income while also allowing him to continue serving at the church Day Centre.’
