Praising God in the Public Square

Worshipping God in Podgorica
Worshipping God in Podgorica

At the start of June, the first Christian concert of its kind took place in the main square in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. Believers from across the country came together to organise the event. Here’s what several of our partners had to share.

Vladimir Cizmanski, Podgorica Evangelical Church:

This concert was significant for Montenegro because we believe that it was also a kind of breakthrough in this culture and society. Evangelical Christianity is still quite unknown in this part of the world, and any constructive presentation is a step further in the process of getting closer to people. We are grateful to the authorities who are inclined towards openness and dialogue and even financially supported these activities.

We are grateful to God who made it possible that songs of praise, a children’s choir and the word of salvation could be heard in the heart of Podgorica. We hope that this kind of witness continues next year, to push the boundaries more so that ordinary people can understand the gospel message better.

Boris & Urša Ćurčić, Christ Gospel Church, Podgorica:

The Ministry of Justice, which is in charge of working with churches and religious organisations in Montenegro, decided to support our vision and finance the entire event. They provided a stage, a hotel for some believers, pastors and Christian bands from the region.

This event was the fruit of joint prayers of all believers and denominations in Montenegro over the last two years. Every church made a big contribution to make this happen. In addition to the three bands, we had a children’s choir, a drama called Sin Jacket, evangelistic messages from two pastors and several testimonies. The event was attended by about a hundred believers from Montenegro and many passers-by who stopped to pay attention.

We saw some people crying and confessing the Lord Jesus. Some of them joined local churches after that and we believe we are still to see fruit. We thank all of you who have supported our efforts in the Lord with your prayers. All glory and thanks be to our God for the opportunity to serve Him, and for all He does to expand His Kingdom.
